Social Media & The Future of Design
From architecture to fashion, all kinds of designers are more influenced today than ever by information from internet, specifically social media. The ease in which information is obtained about what the public prefers, causes designers to turn to internet to find approved concepts or to make sure their ideas will be liked. In the past, there were several processes before knowing the acceptance from the public about a certain design.
A model would be often built before and it would still take time to really record and calculate what kind of response it would have from people. EVen if the constructed design was a success, it would take time for people and media to spread the word about it. Something like the snowball effect. Unlike today that designs like this giant Mickey lookalike (made from solid walnut by Karimoku for Japan's Toy Expo can go "viral" almost immediately.
“Woven Wood” BE@RBRICK by Karimoku for Japan's Toy Expo (Medicom).
Louis Vuitton x Supreme fashion collaboration sold out almost immediately.
